By now you already know I am into plants, thus have started my plant parenthood journey. Honestly, I am so blessed to have gotten this chance to get exposed to varieties of plants everyday. Every time I go to the Mandikhatar outlet I get excited to spend time with the plants. While my eyes look for big green and flowering plants, succulents have recently caught my attention. Lately, I have been very fond of them as the shapes, sizes, and patterns have left me in awe! While most people look for bigger plants for decoration, succulents are left behind. But trust me, these cute and adorable plants equally bring joy to people’s lives and life to a dull space! Let’s discuss six things that you didn’t know about succulents:
1. Best for gifting purposes:
Struggling with choosing the perfect gift for loved ones? Worry not, because surprisingly succulents make a great option for gifting purposes! Found in almost every color and pattern, when repotted together, succulents turn out to be even more beautiful and attractive, which gives pleasure to the eyes! Not only that, their aura and beautiful aesthetics is sure to brighten up the space.
2. Low maintenance:
Surely there are many reasons to go crazy about succulents, however, one of them is their low-maintenance properties. They’re cute and adorable but at the same time carefree. Meaning, you can go days without taking care and they will still not complain. You can grow the healthiest succulents in low water and low light conditions. You also don’t need to worry about them dying because they live a pretty long life. Likewise, you can live a hassle-free life because you don't need to put an effort to grow new succulents as new babies sprout from the cuttings in no time.
3. Symbol of endless love:
Did you know succulents symbolize endless love, longevity, peace, determination, endurance, and perseverance? This symbolization comes from their ability to store water in its thick leaves for a long time and survive in any condition. Not only that, in Feng Shui, succulents represent gold and money, which is believed to attract good fortune. Thus, you can add succulents to your collection for abundance or you can gift it to someone who is determined and taking on challenges in their life.
4. Pest resistant:
Unlike other varieties of plants, succulents are generally pest-resistant. However, succulents are not completely immune to pests so you may occasionally find aphids and mealybugs. But, it’s still easy to maintain which makes them a great option to add to your collection!
5. Succulents are not cacti:
Succulents are often mistaken for cacti. Even though the words are often used interchangeably, cacti, however, are actually a type of succulent. All cacti are succulents because of their water-storing capacity, but not all succulents are cacti. Cacti generally have no leaves and are covered in spines and thorns, whereas succulents have thick leaves only.
6. Worn as ornamental pieces:
Did you know succulent jewelry is actually a thing? Because of their low-maintenance properties, people have started using them as a part of fashion. Succulents are used as ornamental pieces like bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings. You can wear them for one to three weeks because of less water and low light requirements. And once the succulents start showing signs of stress you can peel them off from the jewelry and plant it again. How amazing is that?
I am definitely going to add a few succulents to my collection now! So, did you know about these facts before? Let us know by messaging us on our Facebook/Instagram pages. Until then, happy gardening!
